CONSOLIDATION OF COAST AREAS AND BEACHES
The problem of beaches and coast areas is becoming of great interest because of the very diffused phenomenon of illegal constructions on coast areas that cause erosion .
In many coastal areas of Arab Emirates continuous restructurings are made, but these ones have a very uncertain and temporary effect, whereas in South America and South-East Asia erosion phenomenon of beaches and coastlines are kept under control using a definitive intervention of the beaches is fixed permanently using Paspalum vaginatum. This forms stolons and rhizomes, which are resistant to sea water salinity are able to stabilize coastal sandy areas.
These grasses join the native species present on those grounds. Nowadays,
these native species (beach grass, lily, ammophila etc.) can be reproduced
and transplanted
to keep coastal areas and beaches under control. The plantation is carried
ot with runners and through sprigging technique.
